Mobile analyst firm Juniper Research is the latest company to estimate last year’s smartphone figures. It’s calculated that more than 200 million smartphones were shipped in Q4 of 2012, bringing the annual total to 671 million: that’s annual growth of almost 42% year-on-year.

Samsung accounted for over 30% of the world’s smartphone shipments, shipping a total of 63 million smartphones, while Apple’s iPhone sales reached 47.8 million. Nokia shipped 35 million smartphones during the year - a 54% drop on 2011 - while RIM shipped over 31 million BlackBerry handsets and Huawei is estimated to have shipped almost 20 million smartphones.
