Pyramid Research says the smartphone share of the US mobile phone market will double in the next five years. It’s calculated that 31% of all new mobiles sold in the USA during 2009 will be smartphones – up from just 15% in 2007 – and predicts around 60% will be smartphones in 2014.
The company’s quarterly Mobile Handset Forecast also says BlackBerry has nearly 50% percent of the US smartphone market and will remain in the lead for the next five years, despite Apple iPhone sales potentially doubling during that period. [Press release]
