Independent app store GetJar, which has now seen over 1.5 billion downloads, has released data from its recent global survey. Almost 40% of respondents said they’ll switch to Android when they purchase their next mobile phone, compared to 18% who intended choosing an iPhone.

Patrick Mork, CMO of GetJar, said “The survey results make it clear that all eyes are on Android, as well as the importance of brand equity in the increasingly competitive mobile app space. In addition, the data also reveals that brand marketers and advertisers also have a reason to be hopeful about consumer’s appetite for in-app advertisement.”

Almost 34% of consumers spend at least an hour every day using applications, compared to 49% who spend the same amount of time watching television. Most respondents (58%) use mobile apps more than once a day.

Nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents said they’d downloaded an app with advertising in it, and almost 60% said they’d do it again. Almost one in four made a purchase after clicking on a mobile ad.

However, despite the survey being commissioned by an application store, the results didn’t favour app stores. Only 25% of people had discovered the apps they were looking for using app stores; nearly half had actually discovered apps while browsing online and almost a sixth had discovered apps through recommendations.
