The average mobile phone owner in the USA spends around $60 (£37) on accessories over the life of the handset. That’s one of the findings of the latest report from ABI Research. It also reckons the global market for mobile phone accessories will be worth about $63 billion (£38.5 billion) this year.

Chargers were the most frequently purchased item, followed by batteries and memory cards. The consumer’s age also made a difference; younger people were more likely to buy batteries, data connection cables and protective cases at the same time as buying a phone – which suggested they were more likely to own a higher-priced ‘feature phone’ or smartphone.
