Just over a week before Mobile World Congress 2013 begins in Barcelona, the GSMA has been involved in the opening of another MWC.

This is the Mobile World Centre - officially known as the Mobile World Centre Barcelona Espacio Movistar - and, unlike Mobile World Congress, it’s designed for consumers as well as for people working in the mobile communications industry.

Mobile World Centre

Barcelona’s Mobile World Centre takes up three floors of Telefónica Movistar’s buildings on the corner of Plaça Catalunya. It’s a showcase for new communication technologies as well as being a source of information for businesses. The centre has been created following the GSMA’s nomination of Barcelona as its Mobile World Capital from 2012 to 2018.

Mobile World Centre Barcelona Espacio Movistar was opened by Artus Mas, the President of the Generalitat (Catalonia’s government). He was accompanied by Barcelona’s Mayor and President of the Mobile World Capital Foundation, Xavier Trias , the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and the Information Society, Victor Calvo-Sotelo, the Vice President of the Mobile World Capital Foundation and the President of Telefónica España, Luis Miguel Gilpérez, the Managing Director of the GSMA, Anne Bouverot, and the President of Fira de Barcelona, Josep Lluís Bonet.

The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, working with almost 800 of the world’s mobile operators and more than 230 other mobile companies.
