Mobile consumer research group mobileSQUARED has launched a new database that provides detailed historic data and forecasts for UK and US mobile phone usage. The Mobile Consumer Trends database covers the mobile internet, mobile apps, mobile commerce, opt-in messaging and mobile advertising, with forecasts searchable by device type, gender, age, geography and socio-economics.

MCT’s information starts from the fourth quarter of 2009 and is updated every quarter with figures from Lightspeed Research.

Gavin Patterson, Chief Markets Analyst at mobileSQUARED, said “There is a lack of forward-looking data when it comes to mobile consumers which means companies looking to develop a mobile strategy have had to use old, or historical, information which can often be redundant given the fast-changing mobile space, and the whimsy of consumers. We have a vast quantity of data on key mobile markets around the world which, when joined together with our quarterly consumer research, has enabled mobileSQUARED to develop a robust consumer tracking model that accurately gauges and  forecasts behaviour and usage trends.”

Examples of the level of UK detail available include:

· there’ll be 5.45 million 25-34 year olds using m-commerce by Q4 2011

· there’ll be 2.37 million ABC1s using the mobile internet with an Android device in Q1 2012

· 3.97 million females will opt-in to receive mobile marketing messages in Q3 2012

Mobile Consumer Trends will be rolled out across Europe and into key Asian markets later this year.
