O2 UK has launched a ‘live’ network status checker that lets customers see the current status of the network in their area and check for planned maintenance. It also shows O2 network coverage based on computer predictions.
The coverage service is powered by HDcoverage.com, part of Synectics Technical Consulting, and uses Microsoft's Bing maps.
Gavin Sheldon, Head of Networks at O2 said “We believe it’s essential to provide transparency to both existing and potential customers so that they are able to make informed choices around our products and services. We think providing accurate, detailed information is much more useful to our customers than providing abstract percentages which may not mean much in terms of actual network experience.”
