T-Mobile has launched new tariff options that give customers a fixed data allowance when they’re using a smartphone or mobile broadband device abroad. When the allowance is used, the data connection will stop and customers will be unable to run up any additional costs.

The smartphone options are called ‘Internet Travel Boosters’ while the options for mobile broadband devices are called ‘Broadband Travel Boosters’. A variety of options are available, depending on the destination country and the amount of data required. Each booster lasts for 30 days or until the data has been used. Charges are either added to the customer’s monthly bill,or deducted from their prepay credit.

Ben Fritsch, Head of Propositions at T-Mobile UK, said “This year, 90% of all our new pay monthly customers have opted for a smartphone, which proves the ever increasing demand from consumers to be connected while on the go. We are really proud to be the first UK operator to ensure our customers can continue to be connected, anywhere in the world – and have the peace of mind they’ll never come back to an unexpected bill.”

Prices start from £1 for 3MB of data in Europe, rising to £280 for 50MB of data in Brazil. Customers will automatically be offered travel boosters via a mobile web page when they try to connect to the internet abroad.
