The Advertising Standards Authority has upheld complaints against advertising that claimed "No other network gives you more for £10."  Three UK made the claims in a leaflet published last year.

UK MVNO giffgaff and members of the public contacted the ASA because Three UK’s ad referred to 100 minutes of calls, 500 MB of data and 3000 texts, while giffgaff’s £10 package offers 150 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet browsing.

Three argued that giffgaff wasn’t included because it only offered SIM-only connections and therefore wasn’t relevant to the comparison. It also pointed out that Three’s package included other benefits that weren’t available to customers of other networks.

However, the ASA upheld the complaints, saying the ad had made a specific comparison of call, text and internet allowances. It said the advertisement had breached the rules on misleading advertising, substantiation and comparisons and must not be used again in its current form.

We'll be interviewing Heather Taylor from giffgaff in our podcast on Wednesday 26th January. It's free to subscribe: simply use our RSS feed or download our programmes via iTunes.
