Plans made by the government-appointed independent spectrum broker Kip Meek have been threatened by the forthcoming general election. Although a version of the Digital Economy Bill has been passed, the 'statutory instrument on mobile phone spectrum' will not become law before the election. This means the frequencies used by analogue TV may not be auctioned next year as planned – and the 3G licences owned by the UK's mobile networks may not be extended indefinitely.
