Chinese technology business Huawei has released financial results for 2012. Sales revenue was up almost 8% to 220.19 billion Chinese yen (£23.2 billion), while net profit was up 32% to 15.38 billion yen (£1.6 billion).

The company’s Carrier Network business group saw sales up 6.7% year-on-year, while the Enterprise business group had a 25.8% sales increase and the Consumer business group’s sales revenue was up 8.4%.

Annual shipments of consumer mobile phones reached 127 million units, with smartphones production up 60% on 2011 to 32 million devices.

Guo Ping, Huawei’s current acting CEO under the company’s ‘rotating CEO’ system, said “In 2012, Huawei met business performance expectations through improved operational efficiency. Today, telecom networks are yet to meet the requirements for ubiquitous connections - zero wait time, ultra broadband, and smart applications. In the future, ICT will continue to grow, with new opportunities coming from cloud computing, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and big data, and feature phones being replaced by smartphones at a faster rate. Huawei will continue to focus on its pipe strategy, integrate and develop businesses around the information pipe, and create value for customers, while achieving sustainable and effective growth.”

Over 30 billion yen - 13.7% of Huawei’s sales revenue - was invested in research and development during 2012.
