Despite Nokia's passion for calling its Nseries smartphones "multimedia computers", most consumers see a big difference between their computers and their mobile phones. Those are the findings from a survey published by Skype, which also says the majority of mobile users don't currently download applications to their mobile devices. After talking to around 3,000 mobile users in the USA, the UK, Japan and Spain, researchers found that 62% of people didn't view their mobile device as an extension of their computer and 70% had never downloaded an application to their mobile device. In the UK specifically, 65% felt they didn't have the same level of control over their mobile device as they had over their computer and just 28% had downloaded applications to their mobiles. Skype's COO described it as a clear call to action for the communications industry to work together to deliver what the mobile consumer wants and expects. [Press release]
