New research from Ericsson reveals that mobile data traffic has increased almost 300 times since 2011. The figures were revealed in the latest edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report, which was first published ten years ago.

Other headlines include an additional 5.5 billion smartphone users worldwide since 2011 and a forecast that around half of all mobile subscriptions by the end of 2027 will be 5G connections. Three-quarters of the world’s population is expected to be covered by a 5G network by 2027.

By the end of this year, Ericsson expects there'll be almost 660 million 5G subscriptions across the world, driven in part by falling 5G device prices.

Fredrik Jejdling, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks at Ericsson, said "Mobile communication has had an incredible impact on society and business over the last ten years. When we look ahead to 2027, mobile networks will be more integral than ever to how we interact, live and work. Our latest Ericsson Mobility Report shows that the pace of change is accelerating, with technology playing a crucial role."

The 2021 Ericsson Mobility Report can be downloaded from the company's website.

Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, predicts that this year’s reduction in the number of traditional telecoms operators in some countries will provide an opportunity for other operators to innovate and capture market share in 2016.

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.

Mark Bridge writes:

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
