ExclusiveBBC launches crowd-sourcing app to check UK mobile coverage

The BBC is conducting a month-long survey that's designed to measure the availability of 2G and 3G mobile phone services in the UK. It's using an Android application that'll collect information and will anonymise it.

The UK 3G Survey app has been developed for the BBC by Epitiro.

ExclusiveZTE plans own-brand devices for UK via Brightpoint

ZTE Corporation has signed an agreement with the European distribution business of Brightpoint to provide own-branded smartphones and tablet devices to the UK.

The Chinese telecoms company - best-known in the UK for providing 'white label' devices - has previously said it expects to ship more than 80 million handsets this year, up from 60 million units in 2010.

ExclusiveRedesigned Android Market is on the way

Google says a completely redesigned Android Market client is being rolled out to Android mobile phones. It's expected to be available on all devices running v2.2 and above in the next few weeks.

The home screen has a new 'tile' format with a promotional page and the option to search for books and movies in countries where these services are available. There'll also be country-specific lists of top apps in many regions.
