Mercedes-Benz is introducing Qi wireless smartphone charging to its cars next year

Mercedes-Benz says it’ll soon be fitting its cars with smartphone and tablet charging panels that use the Qi wireless standard. The announcement follows a recent decision by the Consumer Electronics for Automotive association (CE4A) to endorse Qi. Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is a member of CE4A along with Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volkswagen.

A number of Jeep, Toyota and SsangYong vehicles already offer Qi charging points. Over 200 devices currently support Qi, including the new Google Nexus 7 tablet, the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
