Microsoft updates its Windows-powered Surface tablets with two new models

Microsoft has announced two new additions to its family of Surface tablets. The Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will be available in the UK from 22nd October, along with a range of new accessories.

Running Windows RT 8.1 on the recently-introduced NVIVIA Tegra 4 processor, Microsoft’s Surface 2 offers a battery life of up to 10 hours. The Surface 2 Pro runs the full version of Windows 8.1 on a 4th-generation Intel Core i5 processor. Both can be used with the new Type Cover 2, which combines a backlit keyboard with a protective front cover. There’s also a ‘Power Cover’ that combines a conventional keyboard with a touchpad and an additional battery.

Although there had been some speculation that Microsoft would produce a smaller tablet, the two Surface 2 devices both offer the same 10.6-inch display size as their predecessors. However the standard Surface 2 has been upgraded to 1080p HD and has an improved 3.5 megapixel front-facing camera and 5 megapixel rear camera.

Online ordering at www.surface.com will be available tomorrow, with pricing from £359 for the Surface 2 and from £719 for the Surface 2 Pro.
