Google Play gift cards launch in the USA

Google is following Apple and Facebook by launching gift cards that can be bought from major retailers.

It means that Android smartphone and tablet users can now pay for purchases with Google Play gift cards, although they’re currently only available in the United States.

The cards are currently being sold by Target, GameStop and RadioShack in the USA, with Walmart expected to start selling them in the next few days. Credit from the gift cards can be used via Google Play for applications, books, films, music and in-app purchases.

There’s currently no mention of any Google gift card plans for the UK.
