Research In Motion says it’ll be giving away a selection of applications worth more than $100 (£63) in total to customers ‘as an expression of appreciation for their patience’ during last week’s disruptions to BlackBerry service. The apps will be made available to customers from Wednesday 19th October via BlackBerry App World.

Mike Lazaridis, co-CEO of RIM, said “Our global network supports the communications needs of more than 70 million customers. We truly appreciate and value our relationship with our customers.  We’ve worked hard to earn their trust over the past 12 years, and we’re committed to providing the high standard of reliability they expect, today and in the future. We are grateful to our loyal BlackBerry customers for their patience. We have apologized to our customers and we will work tirelessly to restore their confidence.  We are taking immediate and aggressive steps to help prevent something like this from happening again.”

The complete selection of apps will become available during the next four weeks and will remain free until the end of December. RIM’s enterprise customers will also be offered one month of free Technical Support.
