HP has committed to making its webOS source code available under an open source licence by September. It’s starting by releasing version 2.0 of the Enyo developer tool for webOS, with other individual elements due to be released in the next few months.
Bill Veghte, HP’s executive vice president and chief strategy officer, said “HP is bringing the innovation of the webOS platform to the open source community. This is a decisive step toward meeting our goal of accelerating the platform’s development and ensuring that its benefits will be delivered to the entire ecosystem of web applications.”
A beta version of the open source webOS is expected in August.
