Ofcom proposes changes to premium rate regulation

Ofcom has published a statement confirming its plans to improve the regulation of Premium Rate telephone services (PRS). In it, Ofcom says PhonepayPlus – the premium rate service regulator - should look at strengthening its advertising requirements so that PRS advertising includes a message such as the “calls from mobiles will cost considerably more” warning used in TV shows. Ofcom also acknowledged its previous suggestion that PRS advertising should contain the maximum price that may be charged by a communications provider would be unworkable.
