Twitter launches its own music service

Micro-blogging service Twitter has launched a new service called Twitter #music. It uses activity on Twitter to find the most popular tracks and new artists as well as making it easier for users to enjoy music from their favourite musicians.

The service uses iTunes, Spotify and Rdio to provide its music. Subscribers to Rdio and Spotify can listen to full-length tracks while other users will hear iTunes previews.

Twitter #music is currently just available as an Apple iOS app and a web-based service at music.twitter.com, although an Android app is planned. It’s available in the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand at the moment.

Earlier this month Twitter announced it had bought the We Are Hunted music service.
