EE, formerly Everything Everywhere, has announced tariff details for its new 4G mobile phone service in the UK. It’s launching 4G in the UK on Tuesday 30th October in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow and parts of Southampton. Coverage will expand to Belfast, Derby, Hull, Nottingham and Newcastle by Christmas. 98% of the UK population is due to be covered by the end of 2014.
The new service will be called 4GEE. Average speeds of 8-12Mbps are expected for the 4G UK service; around five times faster than the 1.5Mbps currently experienced for 3G connections.
In addition, EE is introducing a number of additional value-added services for its 4G mobile customers.
Orange and T-Mobile shops in the UK will be rebranded as EE on 30th October.
Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, said “We’re proud to be leading the way and pioneering the roll out of 4G in the UK. With our new brand and unique 4G and Fibre services, we will deliver consumers and businesses across the country next-generation services and a superior level of support. Our new plans have been developed to offer our customers everything they have been asking for - superfast performance, choice and value - as well as a fresh approach to pricing and customer service that offers accessibility, flexibility and guidance every step of the way.”
4GEE tariffs will offer a mobile data allowance along with unlimited UK calls and texts. Pricing starts from £36 per month for 500MB, rising to £56 per month for an 8GB data bundle. Customers will be warned when they approach their limit and will have the option of buying an additional allowance for the remainder of the month. Business deals start from £35+VAT monthly for 1GB of 4G data.
Tethering and voice over IP are both permitted with the 4G price plans, which also include BT WiFi coverage. An additional £5 monthly charge allows customers to use their voice & text allowance in certain countries abroad, although 4G data isn’t included.
EE is also launching a fixed-line fibre service from £15 per month for home and office, promising an 58.5Mbps average speed.
