Shazam claims more than a quarter of a billion users worldwide

Music discovery service Shazam has announced that it’s exceeded a quarter of a billion users worldwide. Last month the company revealed that its service had been used to identify over 5 billion songs, TV shows and ads since launching.

In addition, Shazam says it’s expanded its ‘Shazam for TV’ service in the USA to support the ‘tagging’ of TV programming on any channel. It’s also enhancing its social features within its iOS and Android applications.

Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO, said “With more than a quarter of a billion people who have used Shazam worldwide, no other app has our scale when it comes to offering the opportunity to engage with the media that interests them the most, whether it’s music or television. And now, that experience is even better than before, enabling people in the US to engage with any show at any time.”

Shazam launched its service in the UK ten years ago.
