More than two million customers have pre-ordered Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 5 within 24 hours of the device being offered for sale. That’s over twice as many pre-orders as the iPhone 4S attracted.
The Apple iPhone 5 was announced last week and will go on sale from 21st September. The company reckons most pre-orders will be delivered to customers on Friday, although the high demand means many people will now need to wait until October.
Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said “iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal. iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
UK pricing is from £529 SIM-free via Apple (or ‘free’ on some two-year network deals).
