Today Facebook has announced ‘Home’, a new Android-based application that offers a Facebook-centred experience on compatible mobile phones.
The first handset that’ll be preloaded with Facebook Home is the HTC First. It’ll be available on AT&T in the United States from Friday 12th April and will then have an exclusive UK launch on EE in the summer, although a firm date for UK availability hasn’t been confirmed.
HTC’s 4G-compatible First will be produced in four colours: black, white, red and pale blue. It’ll run Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) on a Qualcomm dual-core 1.4GHz processor and has a 4.3-inch display. There’s a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.6 megapixel front camera and a 2000mAh battery. Dimensions are 126mm tall and 65mm wide.
Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, said “True to HTC’s track record of providing cutting edge design, and being first to offer new smartphone experiences to the market, the HTC First offers a unique home experience to Facebook's many users. Along with our partners and fellow innovators - Orange in France and EE in the UK - we anticipate excitement from customers when the HTC First becomes available, putting a user's friends and family at the centre of their mobile experience.”
