LG reveals smartphone sales of over 10 million during the last quarter

LG Electronics has published results for the first quarter of 2013, revealing that it shipped a new record of 10.3 million smartphones during the three-month period. Overall handset shipment figures weren’t released.

Revenue was up 6.8% year-on-year to KRW 14.1 trillion (£8.3 billion), largely due to the performance of the mobile business. Net profit was down around 90% year-on-year to KRW 22 billion (£12.9 million), although the Q1 2013 figure was an improvement on the loss recorded in Q4 2012.

The mobile part of the business - LG Mobile Communications Company - saw revenue up 28.5% year-on-year to KRW 3.21 trillion (£1.9 billion). Its operating profit increased to KRW 133 billion (£78.0 million).
