Microsoft has appointed Satya Nadella as its new Chief Executive Officer, making him only the third person to have held this role.
Mr Nadella, who’s been with the company since 1992, will replace outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer from today. The new CEO had previously been Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group.
In addition, Bill Gates - Microsoft’s founder and chairman - is to devote more time to the company and will be given a board role of Founder and Technology Advisor. As a result of this move, John Thompson is being appointed company chairman.
Bill Gates said “During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella. Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
