EE introduces low-cost 4G tariffs and a sub-£100 4G smartphone

EE has announced a series of lower-cost 4G tariffs and what it’s calling the “UK’s lowest priced 4G smartphone”.

UK customers can now pay from £13.99 per month for a deal that includes a free smartphone - either the new EE Kestrel or the Alcatel Idol S - with 500 minutes of calls, unlimited text messages and 500MB of mobile data every month. There’s also a new ‘converged’ package that offers an increased data allowance for customers who have EE’s home broadband as well.

The EE Kestrel is made by Huawei and is similar to the Huawei Ascend G6. It runs Android on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and has a 4.5-inch display. It’ll be free on the £13.99 monthly tariff (which has a minimum term of two years) and will be £99.99 on EE’s 4G pay as you go deal. Availability is expected at the end of next month, followed by a number of other EE-branded 4G devices.

Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer for Consumer at EE, said “At EE, we’re continually looking for new ways to make a quality 4G experience accessible to all. By introducing the UK’s lowest price 4G smartphone, and great value entry-level plans, even more customers will now have the ability to access the UK’s most advanced 4G network and reap the benefits it offers.”

EE’s service is currently available in 175 towns and cities, covering over 70% of the UK population.
