NOOK eBook reader coming to the UK in October

Barnes & Noble to challenge Amazon.co.uk

The Barnes & Noble NOOK - a rival to Amazon’s Kindle eBook readers - is coming to the UK from mid-October this year. The WiFi-enabled electronic book readers and compatible eBooks will be available via www.nook.co.uk from the autumn, with high-street and online retail partnerships still to be announced. It’s the first time B&N has offered its NOOK for sale outside the USA.

The standard and illuminated versions of the NOOK Simple Touch eBook reader, which has a 7-inch display, will both be available. Current US pricing is from $99.

William J Lynch, Chief Executive Officer at Barnes & Noble, said “We are proud to be able to offer our top-rated line of NOOK reading devices and our award-winning digital bookstore to the discerning and highly educated consumers in the UK. We’re confident our award-winning technology, combined with our expansive content - including books, children’s books, magazines, apps, movies and more - will bring UK customers the option they’ve been waiting for.”

More than 2.5 million digital books, newspapers, magazines, comics and apps are currently available from the NOOK Store.
