Hampshire-based Burnside Telecom has launched a new phone that can automatically answer calls in hands-free mode. The UK-manufactured Burnside P230 device looks like a conventional fixed-line ‘big button’ phone but connects via the mobile network, avoiding the need for installation or conventional line rental. It won’t automatically answer every call but will only respond to callers whose numbers are stored in the phone's memory. The company says the Automatic Handsfree Answering feature is designed to make it easier for the elderly, infirm or disabled to take calls. [PDF specification document]
