Sky acquires The Cloud, giving it over 5000 UK WiFi hotspots

British Sky Broadcasting – better known by many as BSkyB or Sky – has acquired WiFi operator The Cloud. The deal was agreed on 11th January but has only just been made public.

Sky says the deal will give it ownership of over 5,000 public WiFi locations across the UK, complementing its existing broadband service and ensuring that customers can access its forthcoming online service ‘Sky Anywhere’.

O2 recently announced plans to create its own UK WiFi network and move away from its partnership with BT Openzone and The Cloud.
