Two 3D devices from LG at Mobile World Congress

LG announced two 3D-capable devices at Mobile World Congress this morning. The LG Optimus 3D, which can record and play 3D video, was widely expected – although the appearance of a tablet with similar 3D cameras was more of a surprise.

Both devices are equipped with twin 5-megapixel cameras on the back… and both have dual-core processors inside. The LG Optimus 3D introduces the world’s first dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory smartphone architecture as well as the first 3D platform allowing for recording, viewing and sharing of 3D content. Unlike other 3D consumer equipment, it’s not necessary to wear 3D glasses to see on-screen content.

Meanwhile, the LG Optimus Pad features a 8.9-inch display and Google’s Android 3.0 platform.  Although it can’t playback in 3D, it’s capable of sharing its 3D user-generated content with 3D-capable televisions.

Dr Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company, said “With a flood of tablets hitting the market, we felt strongly that the LG Optimus Pad needed to set a new standard for what a tablet should be. We think the LG Optimus Pad achieves the right blend of portability and viewability with no performance compromises.”
