HTC promises Facebook phones and its first tablet for Summer 2011

HTC has revealed a number of new products at Mobile World Congress, including two Facebook-focussed handsets. The Android-powered HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa both feature a dedicated Facebook button for one-touch access to key functions of the Facebook service. One has a QWERTY keyboard and a 2.6-inch screen, the other has a 3.4-inch screen.

The Facebook button on is context-aware and will flash when there’s an opportunity to share content or information through Facebook. For example, you can upload a photo, share a website or ‘check in’ to a location by pressing the button.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation, said “HTC has always understood that different people want different things and the new HTC ChaCha and Salsa offer special new ways to experience Facebook on a mobile device. With more than 500 million active users worldwide, Facebook has become synonymous with the social web and we wanted to create the ultimate socially connected phones with mass market appeal.”

The two phones will run Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 with the latest version of HTC Sense.

Also expected in Q2 of 2011 is the HTC Flyer tablet. It’s a 7-inch device with a 1.5GHz processor and an aluminium body. Features will include built-in synchronization with Evernote, content from cloud-based streaming video service HTC Watch and cloud-based mobile gaming from OnLive.
