Acer - currently claiming the world no.2 spot for PC and notebook sales - has revealed new tablet devices and a new smartphone this week.
The Acer ICONIA SMART promises a 4.8-inch 1024x480 widescreen and an 8-megapixel camera. The device will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread on a Qualcomm 1GHz processor. UK availability is expected from May 2011.
A 7-inch tablet - the Acer ICONIA TAB A100 - will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb on an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU. This will arrive in the UK towards the end of April 2011. Also arriving in April 2011 is the 10.1-inch Acer ICONIA TAB A500 tablet. As with the A100, it’ll run Android 3.0 on an NVIDIA chip.
However, the earliest arrival from the new batch of devices is the ICONIA TAB W500. It’s 10.1-inch multi-touch tablet with the option of a docking ‘chiclet’ keyboard. It runs Windows 7 on a 1GHz AMD C-50 chip and will be available in 3G+WiFi or WiFi-only versions. Acer’s ICONIA TAB W500 will be available in the UK early next month with an RRP of £449 incl. VAT (or £529 incl. VAT with the keyboard).
