Report says UK mobile customers are 'wasting' millions every year by choosing the wrong tariff

The Billmonitor.com price comparison website says over three-quarters of UK mobile phone customers are on the wrong mobile tariffs, which is costing those people almost £5 million annually. It’s analysed over 28,000 mobile phone bills and has compared than against over 8.5 million tariff options from O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile.

Billmonitor’s calculations show that those 76% of UK mobile customers on the wrong tariffs are wasting an average of £194.71 each per year. The biggest problem is paying for a larger call allowance than is needed. This affects 52% of people on the wrong contract and is costing them £2.62 billion. Next is the converse problem - having a tariff allowance that’s too small - with ‘out of bundle’ calls, texts and data usage wasting £1.53 billion. Finally, 19% of people simply aren’t using all of their tariff benefits or could be better off on longer contracts; this is costing them £0.74 billion.
