Profits could be lower than expected, says RIM

Research In Motion has updated its ‘financial guidance’ for the current financial quarter that ends on 28th May 2011. The company says earnings per share are likely to be lower than the figures previously forecasted.

This is mainly due to shipment volumes of BlackBerry smartphones being “at the lower end of the range of 13.5 - 14.5 million forecasted in March” and the product mix favouring handsets with lower average selling prices. However, RIM says shipments of BlackBerry PlayBook in the quarter are currently in line with its previous expectations.
