Music discovery service Shazam has announced its first corporate acquisition. Technology from California-based Tunezee is being added to the Shazam Encore app, enabling users to view song lyrics synchronised in real-time with the music they are listening to. It’s currently available for more than 25,000 songs.
The Shazam LyricPlay service is being launched in the US and Canada as part of the Shazam Encore and SHAZAM RED Apps for iPhone and iPod touch. It’ll be rolled out to other countries later.
Andrew Fisher, Shazam’s CEO said, “Shazam leads the marketplace for mobile discovery and we constantly strive to develop even greater consumer experiences. We are committed to make the necessary investments to build or acquire innovative technology in order to enhance these experiences as we continue to innovate and enhance the world’s leading mobile discovery service. We believe Shazam LyricPlay is a world’s first and significantly enhances the magical experience Shazamers love.”
Customers simply ‘tag’ a song they are currently listening to, tap the new LyricPlay icon and turn their device sideways to watch the lyrics appear as the song plays.
