Location and navigation company TomTom is putting its local search service on portable navigation devices, iPhones and Android smartphones from this summer.
TomTom Places combines the company’s business listing and POI database with its maps, helping people to find the type of business they’re looking for - from cash machines to car mechanics.
Lucien Groenhuijzen, Managing Director of TomTom Places, said “Local search is key to providing relevant information about places for people so that they can navigate freely to wherever they want to go. We give people more freedom to discover and enjoy new places along the way, using platforms which encourage a seamless navigation journey from the home via the internet, to in-car devices and on foot using their smartphone.”
TomTom Places will be included on new connected portable navigation devices. It’ll be a free add-on for existing connected PNDs and iPhones in the summer, with an Android search app due later this year. Initial plans cover Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Portugal, followed by a roll-out to the UK and other countries covered by TomTom LIVE Services.
