Apple sells four million iPhone 4S handsets in first weekend

Apple says it’s sold over four million units of the new iPhone 4S within three days of its launch on 14th October. In addition, more than 25 million customers are now using iOS 5, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, and more than 20 million people have signed up for the free iCloud storage service.

The iPhone 4S is currently available in the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the USA. It’ll be available in 22 more countries on 28th October and will be launched in more than 70 countries by the end of the year.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said “iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days. iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”
