Vodafone 360 announces planned closure

VodafoneVodafone has announced that its Vodafone 360 service will close on 31st December 2011. Customers are being directed to vodafone.co.uk/360close for instructions on how to backup their data.

Vodafone 360 was launched around two years ago, promising a single address book for contacts from your phone and your online networks, a single place for social media updates and an application store. In addition, the company was offering a choice of two Samsung mobile phones carrying the Vodafone 360 brand.

A year later,  the company dropped the 360-branded phones in favour of focussing on the service itself. In a statement issued in July last year, it said “We have decided to accelerate our Vodafone 360 services strategy, making 360 services available on as many devices as we can as soon as we can.”

Although Vodafone has started sending text messages to customers informing them about the planned closure, it’s not yet issued any explanation about the reason the service is closing.
