It’s been rumoured for a few weeks - but Porsche Design and Research In Motion have now confirmed they’ll be producing a new luxury mobile phone. The new device is officially called the Porsche Design P’9981 smartphone from BlackBerry and will feature a stainless steel frame, leather back cover and distinctive sculpted QWERTY keyboard. It’ll also have an exclusive Porsche Design UI and will be preloaded with a custom Wikitude World Browser augmented reality app.
Todd Wood, senior vice president for Industrial Design at Research In Motion, said “This collaboration stems from a shared belief that form equals function. The Porsche Design P’9981 is a truly modern luxury smartphone, where the timeless style of Porsche Design meets the unmatched mobile experience provided by BlackBerry.”
The Porsche Design P’9981 will run the BlackBerry 7 operating system on a 1.2GHz processor and includes built-in support for NFC. It’ll be available from Porsche Design stores later this year.
