Nokia announces closure of Ovi Share

Last year Nokia announced plans to rebrand its ‘Ovi’ services as ‘Nokia’. At the time it said the services wouldn’t be disrupted, although the company has now revealed plans to discontinue its Ovi Share service.

Web uploads to Ovi Share will be blocked from 13th March, with customers being given until 30th May to download all their content. Ovi Share will be discontinued from 31st May 2012.

In a blog post, Nokia says “Discontinuing Ovi Share was a business decision to help us focus on our core Nokia service offerings. The new business unit Location & Commerce, established in June 2011, is now in the center of our revised services strategy, bringing you leading location-based services like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps and Nokia Transport.”

Ovi Share was the first of Nokia’s Ovi-branded services. The multimedia storage and sharing service was launched in 2008.
