ZumoDrive, the cloud-based file storage service that was acquired by Motorola Mobility at the end of 2010, is to be closed. Accounts will be deleted after 1st June 2012.
Users who signed up via the ZumoDrive website or the ZumoDrive mobile application are being encouraged to download and save their data. Yahoo! My Drive users are also affected.
In an email to users, Motorola Mobility said “Motorola is excited to announce that we’ll be moving over to MotoCast to continue delivering innovative, cost effective solutions for accessing, sharing, and consuming your digital content. MotoCast provide seamless, instant access to all your computer's content from your smartphone, tablet or even another computer safely and securely. Stream your own music, videos, photos and files without the burden and cost of uploading to a public cloud.”
Download tools for Windows and Mac users have been made available for Motorola ZumoDrive users.
The HP Cloud Drive, HP Web Service Store, Cruz Sync and Toshiba App Place services - which are all ‘powered’ by ZumoDrive - are not affected by this closure. The ZumoCast cloud service is also unaffected.
