It seems only a couple of months ago that Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, left the fictional Star Wars universe and started working for Currys and PC World. He’d obviously been pursuing the C3PO and R2D2 robots that had appeared in his employer’s TV advertising a year earlier.

Now it’s Vodafone’s turn to borrow from Star Wars, having signed 900-year-old Yoda to appear in a series of television adverts. The first ad, which is scheduled to appear on Channel 4 tomorrow night, shows Yoda discovering his Jedi skills aren’t needed to help Vodafone customers.

The 60-second TV advert features Vodafone RED Box, a service that automatically transfers the content of an old mobile phone to a new handset. Future ads will showcase Vodafone’s Data Test Drive, Tech Team and Buyback services.

Danielle Crook, Director of Brand Marketing at Vodafone UK, said “These small things can mean the world to our customers – it’s why we have developed a range of simple services to help them feel confidently connected on the go. The campaign with Yoda shows that you don’t need to be a Jedi Master to unlock the power of mobile internet.”

I've just seen Windows Phone 7 and Yoda in the same video at the same time. What a start to 2012! I'm sure there a lot of Yodafone jokes going around Newbury at the moment.
