Telefonica introduces 'Latch' security service to help consumers protect their online identity

Telefónica recently announced a new security application that enables consumers to ‘switch off’ their social networks, online banking and other digital services when they’re not being used.

It’s called Latch and has been developed by internet security company ElevenPaths, which is part of Telefónica Digital.

The Latch app prevents anyone from accessing specific online services even if they have log-in details. In addition, it sends an alert every time it detects someone trying to access one of the services that has been disconnected.

Currently the Latch app is only compatible with some of Telefonica’s own internal services and the control panel used for Acens cloud-based hosting. However, Telefonica says it’s also discussing Latch integration with a number of international digital service providers.

Chema Alonso, CEO of Eleven Paths, said “Latch offers companies considerable advantages. By integrating the application into their security systems, they will offer their users the possibility of rapidly and simply increasing the security of their digital identities. And all of this thanks to a technology designed to be easily integrated.”

Latch can be downloaded for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.
