Money transfer company MoneyGram has announced an agreement that’ll see its services provided over Gemalto’s LinqUs Mobile Money solution. It means customers will be able to send international money transfers from a mobile phone to one of MoneyGram’s 284,000 locations worldwide or, alternatively, to receive transfers directly to their mobile wallet.

Banks and mobile operators that use Gemalto Mobile Financial Services will be able to connect directly to MoneyGram’s global network.

Tim Summers, head of global strategic partnerships at MoneyGram, said “MoneyGram is actively developing new mobile and online channels to meet our customers’ evolving needs to access cash quickly, easily and globally. Gemalto has relationships with more than 450 mobile operators and 3,000 financial institutions worldwide. Their extensive experience with global mobile financial services brings a secure environment that extends MoneyGram’s money transfer services to consumers and gives them more options.”

We spoke to Gemalto’s Howard Berg and Naomi Lurie about mobile financial services in our podcast on 21st October 2011. You can listen to the interview via the built-in audio player on our website or by downloading the MP3 file.
