The new G5 smartphone from LG Electronics has a design that includes a slide-out battery and the option to add other modular components.

LG’s G5 runs Android ‘Marshmallow’ 6.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Processor. It has a 5.3-inch Quad HD display and two rear-facing cameras: a standard 16 megapixel camera plus an additional wide-angle 8 megapixel camera. The display offers a low-power ‘always-on’ option for checking the time and a brightness-boosting Daylight Mode.

Current modules include LG CAM Plus (a camera with an additional battery and physical buttons for power, shutter, record and zoom) and LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O PLAY (which is a HiFi-quality audio player).

LG also announced a range of ‘companion devices’ that it’s referring to as ‘LG Friends’. There’s a virtual-reality headset, a 360-degree camera, a rolling robot, a high-quality Bluetooth headset, high-spec earphones and a drone controller.

Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, said “The new LG G5 will encourage owners to rediscover the true joy of a mobile life. The G5 and LG Friends are the result of many experts inside LG asking themselves if it was still possible to be innovative and unique in the smartphone space. I think once customers spend a little time with the LG G5, their answer will be a resounding yes.”

He says next year will be a year of rapid change for telecoms… whether it’s MVNO disruption, competitive tariff pricing or simply defence from the ‘dark art’ of hacking.

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.

James Rosewell shows me a colourful roll of paper that's the width of an iPhone but well over three metres long. When I look closer, I can see it's a printed copy of the Wall Street Journal's mobile website. That's a lot of scrolling to do... and a pretty unfriendly user experience for anyone reading the news online. Why does it work so badly?
