HP says it’s ending support for the webOS cloud services platform from 15th January 2015. This means that anyone with a webOS-based smartphone or tablet won’t be able to set up, backup, restore, recover passwords or download apps via the webOS service.

However, any devices already set up will continue to work.

HP stopped producing webOS devices in 2011, later selling the webOS source code to LG.

In its online FAQ, HP said “The user count has dwindled to the point where it is no longer viable to keep the services running.”

Handheld computer manufacturer Palm originally created webOS, which became part of HP when it acquired the Palm business in 2010.
