Finnish smartphone developer Jolla says its Sailfish mobile operating system has reached release 1.0 and will ready for global distribution from next month. There’ll also be a downloadable version of the software for handsets that currently run Android, plus a separate user interface app that’ll simulate the Sailfish OS experience on Android devices.

Jolla’s Sailfish OS supports native Sailfish OS applications and many Android applications.

Marc Dillon, co-Founder and COO of Jolla, said “We’re very excited to announce this. We’ve been working hard together with our user community to make the user experience of the Jolla smartphone and Sailfish OS effortless and distinct. We believe that Jolla now offers a truly viable option for all smartphone users. Naturally we are not stopping here, as we continue to provide monthly software updates to Jolla devices and Sailfish OS.”

The company started selling its first phones in November last year, with online sales now available across Europe at €399 incl. VAT.

Partnerships with Rovio and F-Secure have been announced as well. An Angry Birds ‘The Other Half’ smart cover will automatically customise a Jolla smartphone with sounds, images and videos linked to the game, while the F-Secure agreement will offer free cloud storage to Jolla customers.

The most memorable moments in life often go unrecorded. You don't have your camera in your hands. Your finger is still hovering over the 'pause' button on your audio recorder. Or you were simply too busy experiencing whatever was happening. It's all about the one that got away.

That's where Kapture can help.
