Mark Bridge writes:

Cortado was founded in 1999 as ‘ThinPrint’, with the company’s expansion beyond wireless printing leading it to change its name.

This week it’s expanded even further, combining its cloud desktop services with mobile device management. The result is Cortado Corporate Server 6.0, a new service that enables organisations to offer their staff secure, managed mobile access to corporate files.

Carsten MickeleitI caught up with Carsten Mickeleit, CEO and President of Cortado AG, to talk about the entire range of Cortado services.

We started with the Cloud Printing Alliance - now boasting 16 members - which puts printer drivers ‘in the cloud’, enabling mobile devices to use almost any printer that’s attached to a WiFi network. In addition, a new ‘print to e-paper’ option allows documents on a desktop PC to be transformed into a pdf and sent to the user’s tablet via Cortado’s cloud desktop.

However, the really big news from Cortado is that its cloud desktop service, which is free for individuals, is about to become a fully-featured mobile device management service for businesses. “Behind your own firewall, completely secure, controlled by your own IT staff”, Carsten pointed out. “You don’t need a dedicated folder where you move documents in. With our solution we give you complete access to a corporate environment, to a complete active directory and to all your file shares.”

“You have one central system where you can manage mobile devices, manage the corporate access of those devices and can control how documents will leave your corporate environment in a highly secure way.”

You can listen to the full interview with Carsten on our website, via iTunes or by downloading the MP3 file. Our previous conversations about mobile printing and the cloud desktop are also still available from TheFonecast.com.
